Frelimo prioritised cinema as an innovative means of mass communication alongside radio, the press and posters. An important channel for this was Kuxa-Kanema, a newsreel produced by the INC, which was screened by mobile cinemas in rural and suburban areas, and which sought to project to the people an image of their Nova Sociedade (New Society) taking shape. Between 1980 and 1985, the INC also ran weeks devoted to African, Mozambican, Cuban, Vietnamese, Algerian, Polish, Brazilian, Portuguese, Italian, Chinese, Swedish and Indian cinema, as well as Soviet film.
