Three-colour offset lithograph, DNPP, Maputo
On 3rd February 1969, seven years after forming the Front for the Liberation of Mozambique (Frelimo), Eduardo Mondlane, pictured in this poster, was killed by a parcel bomb at his Dar es Salaam office. He is celebrated for his legacy of national unity, alluded to here by the overlay of the map on his portrait. To create Um Só Povo (One Single People) from Mozambique’s linguistically and culturally diverse population would be one of the greatest challenges facing his successor, Samora Machel.
