Frelimo had produced posters from the mid-1960s, but the medium was identified as a priority during the DIP conference in Macomia in November 1975, which had concluded that: ‘in the revolutionary phase of our country, propaganda is the most important instrument to use in the dissemination of the political and ideological line of Frelimo’. Holding the conference in the far northern province of Cabo Delgado, demonstrated Frelimo’s principled commitment to its roots in rural areas, particularly the former Liberated Zones.
