In 1973, Frelimo dedicated 7th April, the date of Josina Machel’s death, as Mozambican Women’s Day. The text in this poster quotes Samora Machel’s speech the same year, to launch the Organisation of Mozambican Women (OMM), in which he affirms the emancipation of women as a cornerstone of Frelimo’s ideology. Shedding the shackles of patriarchy was framed as an integral part of the process of liberation and decolonisation.
